Departmental Profile of the Department of English

An Overview:

  • The Department of English is still to be fully blossomed as the Major/Honours Course of the department is not introduced till today.
  • At present the department offers only the General paper on English Communication( Course entitled AECC-I) and the Alternative English for the English medium students.
  • As per University guidelines the objective of the Course is to impart some of the basic skills in written and communicative methods for better communication.
  • While the course in English grammar has not been prescribed, the student is expected to have a sound knowledge of grammar.
  • Apart from learning the use of language, the student would be expected to practice the different modes of speaking, writing and comprehension.
  • The department is committed to provide the learners life-skills in hands on mode so as to increase their employability.

History of the Department:

  • As the subject of English is compulsory for all the students, naturally the department was introduced in the college since 1990.
  • The founder HoD of the department is Mrs. Mrinalini Hazarika. Mrs. Arupa Nath,Mr. Ashish Borthakur, Mr. Yugal Jyoti Borah were the faculty members in the initial stage of the department.
  • After departing the college in the year of 2005 , Mr. Ashish Borthakur took the chair of HoD.
  • Rekha Moni Kutum joined in the department as an Assistant
  • Professor in the year of 2010.
  • Mrs Priyanka Boruah and Late Sarmistha Tamuly were the Part time teachers appointed in the year of 2015 and 2018 respectively.

Future Plan

  • We have plan to open Honours for English Department as soon as possible.
  • We have plan for publishing Departmental Magazine right from this year.
  • To organize a competition of English Poetry Recitation.
  • To organise a National Level training Programme among the students on Communicative English.

To prepare the students to understands, realized and to soul the social vice and obstacles and to make them feet for contributing to the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas.

  • To facilitate the inculcation of  moral, cultural & spiritual values among the youth.
  • To encourage the youth to fight against all forms of social evils and  superstitions.
  • To instill leadership role among the young in  order to develop environmental awareness.
  • To promote and extend helping hands to the nearby community and educational institutions in order to create a responsible attitude for the upcoming generation.
  • To maintain and create a healthy atmosphere of gender equity.
