DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of political science was established in the year 1990 along with the establishment of the college itself. The department started its journey initially with offering general course. However, at present the department offers Honours course. The Major subject has been introduced in the year 2001 with a limited number of seats. The department of political science is running three years Degree course ( BA ) under Dibrugarh University. The honours classes held in the departmental classroom and  generic classes held in the general Classroom of the college.  In every year the Department publishes one wall magazine namely “ NOVOJAGARON” on the occasion of Teachers Day.

Vision of the college

To prepare the students to understands, realized and to soul the social vice and obstacles and to make them feet for contributing to the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas.

Mission of the college

  • To provide opportunity for quality higher education.
  • To facilitate the inculcation of  moral, cultural & spiritual values among the youth.
  • To encourage the youth to fight against all forms of social evils and  superstitions.
  • To instill leadership role among the young in  order to develop environmental awareness.
  • To promote and extend helping hands to the nearby community and educational institutions in order to create a responsible attitude for the upcoming generation.
  • To maintain and create a healthy atmosphere of gender equity.

STRENGTH:

  • A well defined student admission policy.
  • Proper academic support and accredited programmers.

  • Ideal atmosphere and good co-operation exist between teachers and students.
  • Good academic atmosphere exist in the campus along with Digital learning facility

WEAKNESS:

  • The majority of the students come from poor socio-economic background.
  • Lack of proper communication facilies.
  • Lack of adequate classroom facilities.
  • Lack of proper sanitation facilities.
  • Inadequate hostel accommodation for students.
  • Lack of digital library facilities as well as lack of reference
  • There is no separate boy’scommon room facilities as well as lack of auditorium.

OPPORTUNITIES:

  1.  There is no degree college in Marangi Circle hence, it may be easy to attract more students by offering need based course.
  2. College offers every departments to arrange a field trip in every year.

3.To train and council the students to become more employable.

  1. Communication and other skill development programmes can be provided for student as well as faculty.

CHALLENGES:

  • Lack of proper transportation facilities.
  • More drop outs due to their poor economic condition and early marriage of girls.
  • In recent times majority of the students are more interested in professional courses rather degree courses.
  • Inadequate enrollment due to the existence of two colleges in the nearest Golaghat town

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY:

  • There is one Departmental Library in our Department.
  • Our Departmental Library established in the year 2019.
  • Total number of books allocated in the library more than 300.
  • In our library we provide all kind of books including courses.
  • According to the sources all the students greatly benefited from the library.

FUTURE PLANS

  • To upgrade the Departmental Library.
  • To undertake activities towards personality development of the students .
  • To conduct social service programme.
  • To conduct awareness programme on environment.
  • To provide financial assistance for the economically disadvantaged students of the Department.
  • To create environments of learning for students to fully realize their potential and encourage innovative thinking.
