About National Service Scheme:
The National Service Scheme is a central sector scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports. It provides opportunity to the student at School, college and university level of India to take part of various Government led community service activities and programmes. To sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. NSS was launched in the Mahatma Gandhi’s birth centenary year 1969 as a student youth service programme. National Service Scheme aims at the youth on overall objective of “Personality development of the students through community service”. In Marangi Mahavidyalaya NSS unit was launched 2019. Marangi Mahavidyalaya NSS unit is one of the active units working under Dibrugarah University NSS cell. The present volunteer strength of the unit is 100.
Mr. Jayanta Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of Political science has been appointed as the Programme Officer of NSS Unit of the college.
Aims:
The main aim of NSS is to develop the personality of the students through community service.
Objectives:
- To work with/ among people.
- To engage in creative and constructive social action.
- To gain skill in the exercise of democratic leadership.
- To practise national integration and social harmony.
- To understand the community in which they work.
- To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- To understand themselves in relation to their community.
Motto of NSS:
The motto of NSS is “Not Me But You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service.
Activities undertaken by NSS:
- Health, family welfare and nutrition programme.
- Social service programme
- Sustainable development with emphasis on wetland development and watershed management.
- Tree plantation drive.
